Change in Russia

Awana club is meeting in former communist location

The church in Chegvevka, Russia, began its first Awana club meeting at the city’s House of Culture to attract as many children as possible. An Awana missionary who visited their third meeting was surprised to see a large sign displayed in public announcing the meeting in the formerly communist center where atheism had been taught to the children.

The missionary assumed the church had put up the sign and that it would be taken down when the meeting was over, but in fact, the director of the House of Culture was so thrilled to see the children coming in that he left the sign up all week and allowed Awana to display its progress charts on the wall from week to week. The  children, most of whom come from poor families find such joy at Awana and are so happy to be learning about Jesus Christ.
