Awana and Compassion International joined forces in the country of Ecuador to care for both the physical and spiritual needs of needy children. Awana clubs were started in a number of Compassion ministry projects. Rodrigo Andachi, Awana missionary for southern Ecuador, says that “without a doubt” the alliance has proved to be a blessing.

“We have received testimonies indicating that approximately 800 children have accepted Christ,” Rodrigo said. “In addition, approximately 1,500 children receive constant weekly discipling in the different clubs of our zone."

One church shared that the majority of its 240 children belong to Catholic families that initially opposed the gospel message shared by the church but are now allowing their children to attend Sunday church services. One of the children, Guillermo Alcocer, attends Torch club for fifth and sixth grade. Guillermo accepted Christ, began to attend church on Sunday and is now helping with the toddlers in Sunday school. Guillermo’s dream is to become a missionary.

“He is praying that his parents will also accept Christ so that the whole family can attend church together,” Rodrigo said.
