Church in India raises priority of ministry to children

Submitted by Awana missionary, Aashish Abraham

Gurnaam Chand trusted Christ as Savior in his native India at the age of 40. Eight years later, Chand founded and pastored a church which soon grew to an attendance of 500. Having never attended a church as a youth, Chand gave no thought to ministry geared specifically to children and as a result, Chand’s church had no Sunday school or other children’s ministry.

Awana missionary Aashish Abraham accepted an invitation two years ago to be a guest speaker at Chand’s church and was amazed that the church not only lacked programs for children, but that children were left at home while the adults attended services. Abraham presented Awana and the importance of ministering to children, and Pastor Chand instantly made the decision to start Awana in his church.

Today the church runs Awana clubs during the Sunday morning service time with a team of leaders committed to reaching their community and neighboring villages with the gospel message.
