2 teenagers Introduce other children to Christ
Precious leaders in Ecuador help children to know Jesus
Hello from Ecuador,
God has been so good to us, and encouraging us in so many ways that we need to let you know a couple of them.
Sometimes people wonder about the long term results of Awana, or even our ministry. Well, I was encouraged by two young ladies here in Quito, and want to share a little of their stories with you. I went to visit an Awana club in a section of Quito that is known as Comité del Pueblo an area where resources are few. This club was started in a park by an Awana missionary in an effort to reach this unchurched community using some seminary students to help her. God took her to Spain to work and she turned it over a church here in Quito. I was told to expect no building and only 10 children.
When I found the location there were about 20 children gathering there working on their handbooks and saying their sections. I met two young ladies, Nancy García (16) and Vanesa Villón (18) who were directing the club under the supervision of the pastor’s wife. They did a wonderful job and the children had a great afternoon. When it was over I asked them to tell me their stories. Nancy started as a FLAME (4-5 grade) and finished three books. She is now the club secretary and has been in Awana for 8 years. Vanesa started as a TORCH (6th grade) then went into the JV program (Jr. Hi.) and has continued leading the games and council time. She is a senior in high school and wants to be a missionary, maybe an Awana missionary.
What is so special about these young ladies? Lots of things. They started out as Awana Clubbers and now are Awana leaders. As many of our children here, they love Awana so much that they do not want to leave. They start helping the younger children as soon as the leaders will let them (as were a couple of other young people in this group). They are learning to serve their Lord by helping other children come to know Him. Will you pray for Nancy and Vanesa that God will direct their steps into future ministry?
