Awana Ministry in Haiti

Statement from Awana International regarding Haiti

Thank you for your desire to help with the many needs in Haiti. Awana International is subject to regulations under our IRS non-profit status which limit how we can use donated ministry funds. As an organization, we desire to help with these urgent relief efforts, yet, to maintain the integrity of our non-profit ministry status we cannot channel donations to areas other than stated ministry work (as opposed to relief work).

We can, however accept donations for the future needs of the 5 Awana Clubs in Port-au-Prince. There most certainly will be needs for replacement of Awana materials, and for the training of future leaders. This can be channeled through our Adopt-a-Club program.  Just go to www.awanainternational.org/adoptaclub.

Awana International has partnered with many dedicated international children’s ministries over the years and would encourage US Awana Clubs to participate in the Haiti Relief efforts through giving to any of the three that we list here, or ministries that your local church may recommend:

East-West Ministries is the sending mission of Gersan amd Betty Valcin. There will be high demands on them as a couple to meet the needs of those they minister to, as well as to cover added personal ministry expenses they are encountering.  http://www.eastwest.org/

Compassion: All funds raised in response to the Haiti earthquake will be used immediately to reequip Compassion's local support structure and to provide for the immediate needs of Compassion-assisted children and families. Any funds raised in excess will be stewarded by Compassion for additional and future disaster relief efforts.  http://www.compassion.com/

Feed My Starving Children has worked with mission partners in Haiti for more than 10 years, and they currently hold close partnerships with nearly 200 Haiti-based programs. Several of these programs are already offering FMSC meals to victims of the earthquake. One million meals are currently on the ground in Haiti, and with your support, they will produce an additional three million meals for Haiti relief. They will rely on your donations to provide these meals.  http://www.fmsc.org/
