Awana helps churches and parents worldwide raise children and youth to know, love, and serve Christ. Awana missionaries focus on helping children, youth, churches and parents in the USA.

We're the Chewnings.  Marietta and I have been married for eight years and have two lovely daughters Anna Leigh and Samara Ruth.  Anna is 3 years old and Samara is 7 months old.  Together we serve as Awana Missionaries in North Carolina.  Our desire is to see churches develop a deeper passion for teaching children and youth to know, love and serve the Lord Jesus Christ.  In North Carolina alone there are over 2.2 million children between birth and 18 years old.  Wouldn't it be great if all of them came to know, love and serve the Lord Jesus Christ.  With your help we can begin to make that happen.

Both Marietta and I were saved during our childhood years.  God brought the two of us together While serving in the Baptist Student Union at the Universitry of North Carolina at Wilmington in 1997. Through the Baptist student Union we would assist local churches with youth retreats and other youth ministeries.  Through serving the local churches God placed a desrie in our hearts to minster to local churches throughout North Carolina.  In 2001 We were married and became the Awana Commanders at Scott's Hill Baptist Church in Wilmington, NC.  That same year we also began serving on the Awana Ministry Team assisting with training Awana Leaders and helping churches to start Awana Clubs.  In 2005 God began calling us to serve fulltime as Awana Missionaries.  By 2007 we had completed our first phase of training and began to serve the local churches of North Carolina.  What a joy it is to serve the local churches in the area of children's and youth ministry.

Unfortunatley we can't do it alone.  We need your prayers and financal support to continue to minister to the 120 churches in our region of North Carolina.  Many of the churches need training and are struggling to find ways to effectively minister to children and youth.  This is evedent in the numbers we hear today that 1 out of every 2 kids that grew up in the church will walk away from their faith when they leave home.  This is a crisis that the church is struggling with today.  Together we can come along side the local church providing them with a ministry that has been proven for over sixty years.  Training their leaders how to use Awana in their church to effectively reach children and youth with the gospel of Christ and train them to serve Him as well.  Partnering with churches and parents to help them raise a Modern Day Joseph that follows after God in every circumstance like Joseph from the book of Genesis did.
